CLINICAL FEATURES

Nevus spilus, the spotted nevus, is a tan macule with multiple 1 to 3-mm darker brown papules within it. Nevus spilus is a café-au-lait macule (CALM) with junctional nevi within it.

Usually present from birth, a nevus spilus initially may not have noticeable brown spots within the macule.

More brown spots appear with age. The background color of the CALM can vary from light brown to dark brown and the number of nevi from a few to dozens.

TREATMENT

No treatment is necessary. Rarely, in adults, malignant melanoma has been reported to arise from a Nevus spilus.
