CLINICAL FEATURES

At birth, vesicles, pustules are seen on face and trunk. Ruptured vesicles or pustules will have a fine collarette of white scale. Brown pigmented macules appear at the sites of involvement as lesions heal. Vesicles and pustules disappear by 5−7 days of age, but brown macules may take 3 months to clear. The course and distribution are similar to erythema toxicum, but in the vesicles neutrophils rather than eosinophils are seen. Predominantly, black infants have transient neonatal pustular melanosis.

TREATMENT

No treatment is necessary.
