CLINICAL FEATURES

Nummular dermatitis is characterized by coin-shaped plaques most commonly on the extremities and buttocks. Two forms are seen: a wet form with oozing and crusting and a dry form with erythema and scaling. Both forms are persistent, lasting months if untreated.

TREATMENT

High-potency topical steroids are required. Lesions are difficult to resolve and treatment must be persistent, often requiring 4–6 weeks for clearing. Antihistamines may be required if pruritus is significant.
