CLINICAL FEATURES

Nevus anemicus presents as a localized, solitary, hypopigmented macule. Compression of the border will result in equal color of affected and unaffected skin. It is a problem of vascular origin, not melanocytic. It is thought to be a birthmark of blood vessels hyperresponsive to catecholamines via alpha adrenergic receptors. Injection of alpha adrenergic blocking agents will restore the color to that of normal skin.

TREATMENT

There is no effective treatment.
