Localized hypopigmented patch of nevus anemicus.
Hypopigmented patch on forehead of infant with nevus anemicus.
CLINICAL FEATURES
Nevus anemicus presents as a localized, solitary, hypopigmented macule. Compression of the border will result in equal color of affected and unaffected skin. It is a problem of vascular origin, not melanocytic. It is thought to be a birthmark of blood vessels hyperresponsive to catecholamines via alpha adrenergic receptors. Injection of alpha adrenergic blocking agents will restore the color to that of normal skin.
