A halo nevus is seen as a white zone surrounding an intradermal nevus or a congenital melanocytic nevus.

A halo around a nevus is a sign of spontaneous regression of a nevus, and over months, traces of the central nevus will disappear and only the round white area remains. With time, the area repigments. Halo nevi may be single or multiple.

A child with a halo nevus may also have, or later develop, vitiligo. Halos have been described around malignant melanomas, but this is very rare in childhood.

There is no need for treatment as the skin areas will eventually repigment. The child with associated vitiligo may require vitiligo therapy.
