Case 5
A 65-year-old man with chronic cigarette smoking but no prior cardiac history was referred for exercise SPECT MPI for evaluation of exertional dyspnea.
The raw planar images demonstrate soft-tissue attenuation and GI tracer activity in close proximity to the heart. Based on the patient’s height and weight, his body mass index is 34.3 (>30 = obese). Patient motion is also noted.
SPECT images demonstrate a severe and extensive inferior perfusion defect. Because of GI tracer interference, it is difficult to discern if defect reversibility is present.
