CHAPTER 47 Degenerative Neurologic Diseases and Neuropathies
8 Review the anesthetic considerations for a patient with Parkinson’s disease
Abrupt withdrawal of levodopa may lead to skeletal muscle rigidity, which interferes with adequate ventilation. Levodopa should be administered on the morning of surgery and restarted after surgery.14 Review some perioperative concerns for patients with multiple sclerosis. Are medications used for most general anesthetics safe?
22 Review the anesthetic concerns in patients with critical illness polyneuropathy
Note: Perioperative neuropathies are discussed in Chapter 20.
