Syphilitic chancre in an 11-year-old boy 3 weeks’ after exposure.

Secondary syphilis. Pink macules on the palms of a teen.
CLINICAL FEATURES
Secondary acquired syphilis is seen as widespread pink to red papules (morbilliform eruption) with pink macules on the palms and soles accompanied by fatigue, headache and lymphadenopathy. Weeping erosive areas may be seen on oral or genital mucosa.
TREATMENT
Benzathine penicillin given IM weekly at 50 000 units/kg/dose up to 2.4 million units for 3 weeks. If penicillin allergic, doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 4 weeks is recommended.
Late syphilis signs cannot be reversed if treatment is delayed until they appear.
