CLINICAL FEATURES
The abrupt onset of symmetric, painful red nodules with indistinct borders on the extensor lower legs characterizes erythema nodosum. The child or teen will limp because of the pain. Girls are more likely than boys to have EN.
There are many infectious associations including streptococcus (30%), tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, histoplasmosis, tularemia, EBV, hepatitis B, yersinia and coccidioidomycosis.
TREATMENT
Thalidomide has been helpful in severe EN.
